Pasco artist blends missionary work with painting to spread the Gospel
From tampabay.com
Stan Crookall has been a painter since he was a child, but his mission of using his art to teach the Bible came later in life.

"I wondered what I could do to make things more interesting," Crookall said. "So I thought of my art: If I can adapt this to the Bible, it will create more interest. And I've been doing it ever since."

Crookall, 87, leads missionaries in South America who travel with his Bible-based paintings and do outreach in the schools, parks and other places where they can spread the Gospel to large groups of children. He also brings his paintings to Pasco County churches, prisons and parks.

"It's more than just viewing a painting, it's an explanation of a painting that makes it what it's all about," he said.

The Dwelling Place Breaks Ground

“Let them make Me a sanctuary that I may dwell among them.” The verse comes from Exodus 25, when God gave Moses instructions on Mount Sinai about how to worship Him, along with the 10 commandments.

On County Line Road between Dale Mabry Highway and U.S. 41 in north Lutz, a young church has turned that verse into a blueprint, literally and figuratively. Pastored by Rev. Edwin Frost, The Dwelling Place is getting ready to move into the first phase of its building project, beginning with its groundbreaking service that took place Sunday June 14. This is a big day for our church,” said Pastor Ed, as he prefers to be called, during the Sunday morning service. “This is not just a ceremonial thing, but a breakthrough”  Frost may have been referring to the fact that this is not the first time a church has attempted to build on this very property.

In 1976, Trinity Assembly, the first church to reside here, began a similar building project. Its first phase was the church building where The Dwelling Place now holds its services. But when the church split over a disagreement in doctrine, the building program was abandoned. Since that time, a slew of pastors and churches who have taken over the property have had similar aspirations, though none came to fruition. How can The Dwelling Place avoid a similar fate? Pastor Ed proposes the answer lies in looking to the past. “We can look at history and say, ‘We cannot take a step without [God].’” “This property is anointed by God. The enemy knows it, and wants to divide us. We’ve got to stick together. This isn’t about building a building; it’s about building a church.” The Dwelling Place holds services Sunday mornings at 10:30 am and Wednesdays at 7:00 pm.

Stacy visits  LifeSource Family Chiropractic before leaving for South Africa to help kids orphaned by AIDS

Stacy Kolbe of Wesley Chapel, who recently received her Graduate Degree from USF, stopped in at LifeSource Family Chiropractic for a back adjustment from Dr. Erica Berns before leaving on the 26-hour trip to South African on May 18th and will be serving with MCDC setting up training programs for children orphaned by AIDS, for about two months.

MCDC was set up by Melanie Streicher, a South African businesswoman spurred by personal tragedy to reach out to the vulnerable orphans in her country.  It operates in Mpumulanga, a poor rural province in South Africa with over 50% unemployment and some 45% of people living with HIV, leading to large numbers of orphans.

MCDC has set up five 'orphan drop in centres'. Each caters to about 80 children, as well as training and supporting local caregivers.  In 2007, MCDC was given a derelict barn, and in 2008, it has been renovated and equipped as a training centre using HOPEHIV funds. Entrepreneurship and vocational training courses for the older orphans and vulnerable youth are starting in 2009.

Oasis – a Pregnancy Care Center Director Meets With Area Pastors & Leaders

What's all the “buzz' about in Land O Lakes? Yes, it's Spring and flowers are blooming, birds are singing and bees are buzzing. People are also buzzing about Oasis - a Pregnancy Care Center.

Peter Castellani, Director of Oasis – a Pregnancy Care Center, held an informational meeting with Pastors and church leaders from the Land O Lakes area at Myrtle Lake Baptist Church Thursday morning, April 16.The thought of Oasis came to Castellani from a vision from God back on January 31, 2009. “God awoke me at 3:30 AM saying He wanted me to establish a pregnancy care center in the Land O Lakes area.” said Castellani, “I wrote everything down that He said and I promised Him I would not let Him down.” Castellani solicited the help of Myrtle Lake Baptist Church which touts the motto of being 'The Church That Cares!'. When Elbert Nasworthy, the church Pastor, heard what Castellani had to say he, unequivocally, backed the idea promising that the church would come along side Oasis and help make it happen.

With Myrtle Lake Baptist Church established as the foundation for the formation of Oasis – a Pregnancy Care Center the next thing was to let other churches in the area know about Oasis and ask their help in making this important service for the community a reality. Willow Bend Community Church and Pastor Geoff Gordon came aboard with their support as well as “The Mustard Seed” Pregnancy Center which will be part of Oasis once the center opens. Castellani has also met with the Pasco Baptist Association.

All Pastors of churches in the Land O Lakes area where sent invitations to the informational meeting with the following churches having representation: Candlewood Community, Harvester United Methodist Church, Holy Trinity Lutheran, University Church of the Lakes, and Victorious Life and Christian Social Services. Castellani said he would set up meetings, on an individual basis, with Pastors who were unable to attend .

Castellani gave a little background about himself. He informed he was in Finance and Accounting at IBM for over 30 years when he recently lost his job.. He is no stranger to the operations of a pregnancy care center. He had worked in various capacities for over 10 years. He was a board member at A Woman's Place Ministries for several years and currently serves as President of the Pregnancy Care Center. of Zephyrhills.

Castellani explained that Oasis will be a non-denominational, Christian, faith-based, non-profit ministry offering encouragement and support to all women and families experiencing an unplanned pregnancy regardless of faith and background.  It will offer pregnancy tests, counseling, referrals, care information, parenting classes, training on relationship building, and bible study/support groups,. Additionally it will provide maternity clothing, newborn clothing, baby food baby furniture and other baby items. All services will be free.

“We need your prayer for Oasis and the sanctity of human life.” he extolled the group. “We need your support and the support of the community. We need a liaison from each church, volunteers and financial support. We are looking for a facility to be donated for the first year so we can get started.. Finally, I would appreciate the opportunity to share the vision at your churches.”

A very interactive question and answer session followed showing the excitement and interest in starting Oasis. The session was concluded with a blessing and lunch. If you want to become part of the “buzz”, support or get more information about Oasis -a Pregnancy Care Center, please e-mail Castellani at peter@oasispregnancycenter.org or  visit the website at http://oasispregnancycenter.org.

There were four divisions of racing this year. In addition to the traditional Kids Stock Division for first to fifth graders and the Teen-Adult Stock Division, there was also an Outlaw Modified class run.

Fourth Annual Myrtle Lake Baptist Church Pine Car Rally a big success once again
By John Berti, Race Director Myrtle Lake Baptist Church Pine Car Rally

Land O Lakes, FL -July 12, 2008- A total of 30 entrants, made up of youngsters from grades 1-5, teenagers, and adults, participated in the Fourth Annual Myrtle Lake Baptist Church Pine Car Rally on Saturday, July 12th in the Fellowship Hall of the church located at 2017 Riegler Rd. in Land O Lakes.  Pine Car Rally cars are made from kits consisting of a simple block of pinewood four plastic tires and four nail-like axles. They are cut and crafted to the design desires of the individual builder. For the younger set it provides the ideal opportunity for adults and children to work and bond together on a common project.

There were four divisions of competition as part of this year's Pine Car Rally: Kid's Stock (1st-5th graders), Royal Racers (1st-5th graders using Royal Ambassador rules), Teen-Adult Stock and Outlaw Modifieds (using Woodcar Independent Racing League rules). The Royal Racers and Outlaw Modified classes made their debut this year. The new Outlaw Modified class was a big hit with the fans as they saw blistering speeds turned in by these cars which run on wafer thin wheels.  Dakota Stephens, former Florida Sprint Car Association champion and current Tampa Bay Area Racing Association Winged Sprint Car Series (TBARA) sprint car racing star served as Grand Marshal. He had his famed #79 sprint car on display allowing children to sit behind the wheel for photos and autographed his own picture cards.

Step Up, Step Out 2008

May 3, 2008

This exciting event will reach out to the youth in the Tampa Bay and surrounding areas.  It will feature several prominent artists and speakers who will minister powerful messages through song and speech. HolyZone is a Music Ministries geared to reaching teens and young adults, in the Tampa Bay area.

Due to the violence, drugs and the many tragedies involving our youth, we have been inspired to promote positive messages for our young people who are our future.  Many adults see today’s youth as rebellious, violent, disrespectful and even downright frightful. However, be honest and ask yourself when was the last time you stopped and tried to actually find out what might be wrong with a particular youth you know that demonstrates some of the above mentioned characteristics? If your answer was; not too many times or even never, it is okay. Many adults today give the same answer. We as a society have an opportunity to make a small change, a dent if you will in this concept. HolyZone Music Ministries is proud to announce it is hosting the Second annual “Step Up, Step Out 2008” concert scheduled for       May 3, 2008 6PM at Victorious Life Church 6224 Old Pasco Rd, Wesley Chapel, Florida.

The concert will host a variety of Hip Hop, R&B and alternative Rock musicians that spread “Positive” and “Clean” messages to the youth and young adults of today! The songs touch on true - life events and issues, but offer positive outlooks and endings to such situations. Last year HolyZone Music Ministries teamed up with Above and Beyond Ministries to host the first annual “Step up, Step out” concert which turned out to be a two day event. Hundreds of youths attended, and enjoyed the positive messages by such artists as: Corey Red, Sicily, Legacy, T.R.U.E., Craig Nice, Lil Prophet and FoCuSeD just to name a few. This year’s event promises to be even bigger and better! In order to make this event successful, we need your help! Some of the sponsors that were instrumental in the success of last year’s event where; Pepsi, Wesley Chapel Toyota, World Fighting Championship Mix Martial Arts, Hungry Howies, Camp Joy, Bridgeway Church, and Victorious Life Church. This year we are even looking for more sponsors so we may provide handouts (literature), souvenir caps and t-shirts to all those who attend the concert.

We expect to fill each and every seat with adults, young adults and youths alike! Many high school students will be graduating a few weeks after our event, what a great way to prepare them for the World ahead!

I personally would like to thank you in advance for your cooperation and hopeful participation, and I pray that you will be an integral part of our plans with hope for our young people in the community.

Christian Social Services came out in droves to their annual Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction

Garrett Warmer, Master of Ceremonies Tim Sebastian and Judy Sebastian of Land O’Lakes, CSS Executive Director Jacquie Petet, Russell Adams and Maureen Adams of Russell Adams Realty at the Christian Social Services Annual Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction on April 19th. …The works’ almost done for members of the committee at the Christian Social Services Annual Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction on April 19th, Rev Dewey Huttstutler, Sally Focht, Anne Cameron, Mary Gordon and Rev. G. L. Kuehn.   It was a full house at Holy Trinity Church on Thursday, April 19th as supporters of Christian Social Services came out in droves to their annual Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction.  More than $5,800 was raised during the night, including a $1,000.00 donation from retired minister, Gerald Toole, who was very active in the early days of Christian Social Services when he was pastor of Debuel Road Baptist Church.  Bids were made on items donated from local businesses and individuals in the area.  Items included everything from dinners at local restaurants to sporting event tickets to an autographed Yogi Berra baseball and a Jon Gruden autographed mini-football helmet.  A mallard painting by local artist Terry Smith was the subject of intense competitive bidding.  While bidders looked over the dozens of donated gifts, baskets, items and collectables, they were treated to spirited singing by John and Carol Herbet of First United Methodist Church of Land O’Lakes....    CSS Executive Director Jacquie Petet announced that over the two decades of service to the community, Christian Social Services has fed an estimated 36,000 people and distributed probably 900,000 pounds of food.  The participants heard emotional testimony from a grateful client of Christian Social Services, who cares for two grandchildren, one of whom has cerebral palsy.  Outback Steakhouse of Carrollwood not only donated the food for the dinner, but all the Outback staff that prepared and served the dinner did so voluntarily.

Victorious Life Church reaches out into the Community for Christmas

Victorious Life Church Children’s Pastor John Formby, Kelly Slagill secretary for the Youth Pastor and volunteer John Young put the final touches on some of the toys distributed by the Church this year. Every year Victorious Life Church in Wesley Chapel provides an outreach to children in need. It began several years ago with a school teacher who was very involved in ministry at the church.  She began the ministry as an outreach to her class and it was called Lin’s kids. It grew every year and she and her family coordinated the outreach from their home with donations and finances provided primarily by the church congregation.

This year she and her family moved out of state but helped facilitate this ministry so that it could continue.  The project began in August, with her putting a list of toys together and organized them by age and gender.  Victorious Life Church congregation gave financially and the church ordered over 20,000 toys, many are smaller items ordered in bulk.  They packaged them into 4 to 6 toys per package and with that had approximately 3500 packages.  Teams of people from the church congregation were organized to sort and wrap these toys on multiple dates throughout October and November. They then began distributing them to organizations across the community.  For more information you can contact the Church at 973-2230.

In addition to giving toys to children for Christmas, Victorious Life Church also gave out food packages by utilizing the vast network of Faith based organizations in our Community. Approximately 15 organizations and ministries, including their own church-run outreach centers, reached out into the community and provided for needy children and families in nearby communities and within their own church.  One of those Faith based organizations is the very successful ministry of Miss Rita Claxton-Woods (top left) of Lily of the Valley Outreach in Wesley Chapel, seen here with volunteers and clients who are blessed with big boxes of food adorned with her festive Christmas bows. In an effort to raise the standard in peoples lives and not content to simply feed the body, Miss Rita will also feed the Soul with the message of Love and forgiveness from Jesus Christ and the power of prayer to turn lives of despair and depravity into lives of hope and fulfillment. She can be reached at 862-2665.
