The Florida Special Olympics - Pasco County Schools By Andrew Dunn, were out training on February 25, 2015. About The Florida Special Olympics - Pasco County: Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and competition to children and adults 8 years of age and older with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

We currently serve over 1,000 athletes throughout Pasco County. We currently offer 18 different sports. Our athletes are also invited to participate in Athlete Leadership Programs and Healthy Athletes initiatives. Over 500 people from our community give their time to volunteer each year.

Special Olympics Pasco County provides year-round sports training and competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities, at no cost to the athlete. Be a fan!

Overview:

Special Olympics Pasco County currently serves 900+ athletes and offers competition in 14 different team and individual sports. These athletes are trained by certified coaches, and are supported and encouraged by more than 200 volunteers.

Special Olympics athletes are given opportunities to participate without regard to economic, demographic, religious, or social factors. Neither athletes nor their parents are charged a fee to participate in the program, and activities exist for those of all ability levels, from the highly functioning to the severely challenged.

Mission:

Special Olympics Florida provides year-round sports training and competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities, at no cost to the athlete or their caregiver as a means to achieve physical fitness, self-esteem and the life skills necessary to be productive, respected and contributing members of their communities.
