Inauguration Ceremony of the Pasco-Hernando State College’s Fourth President, Timothy L. Beard, Ph.D "Defeating the Odds … Achieving the Dream" (Photos by John Stalter)

Pasco-Hernando State College had a prestigious slate of dignitaries who spoke during the inauguration ceremony of the Pasco-Hernando State College’s fourth president, Timothy L. Beard, Ph.D. With a theme of Defeating the Odds … Achieving the Dream, the presidential inauguration was held on Friday, May 6, 2016 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the PHSC West Campus in New Port Richey, 10230 Ridge Road, in the Performing Arts Center.

Inauguration speakers included: U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis, Florida's 12th congressional district; Sen. Wilton Simpson, Republican member of the Florida Senate, representing the 18th District; Randy Hanna, former chancellor, Florida College System; Ava Parker, JD, president, Palm Beach State College; and Brian Lamb, southeast regional president, Fifth Third Bank.

Other distinguished guest speakers included: Florida A&M University President Emeritus Walter Smith, Ph.D.; Morris Porton, PHSC District Board of Trustees chair; George Miller, senior vice president, Sun Trust and PHSC Foundation chair; Regina Mirabella, PHSC professor, nursing; and Michael Bradley, PHSC student leader and retired Staff Sergeant/USMC.

A celebration reception immediately followed the inauguration ceremony on Friday, May 6 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., in the Physical Fitness Center, also at the West Campus. The Defeating the Odds…Achieving the Dream Celebration Reception presenting sponsors included: BMW of Sarasota & Lamborghini Sarasota, the Musunuru Family and Skanska. Proceeds from the event went to benefit the PHSC’s President’s Fund for Excellence.

Guests were encouraged to bring a new or lightly used book—or any bookstore gift certificate—to ANY inaugural event to benefit students in need at local schools.
