Life has us all so confused sometimes. Our natural instincts lead us astray. Nothing comes naturally and everything it seems has to be learned. Therefore, let’s accept the fact that we are born stupid and need to seek wisdom and expect to find it!
Raising a child in this culture is challenging. How do you set rules in a culture where there are no rules or as the popular saying goes, "Rules are made to be broken"? Seriously, I will give five dollars to anyone who can tell me where that expression came from. The consequences of the last thirty years of no rules are coming home to roost. We probably see it best in big government spending.
A government that feels it can take from one and give to another is ignoring a basic rule they should have learned at home. "Allow no one to take property from the owner, though it were the value of a pin, without consent" said Susanna Wesley in 1729.
That is a good rule however; the problem in our culture is that no one seems to be able to define what constitutes property. We will take that up in our next visit and seek the wisdom of another on that subject. In the meantime just hold on to what you've got.
