Operation Finally Home for Army Sgt. Dave Roca with Connerton & Lennar Homes

Monday, Mar 13, 2017 | On Target Page: Land O'Lakes, Lutz, Wesley Chapel, Support the Troops

The folks from “Operation Finally Home” totally surprised U.S. Army Sgt. Dave Roca with the news that he’ll be getting a new home, and celebrated by breaking ground! Thanks to Lennar Tampa and Connerton in Land O’ Lakes for making it possible as well as Pasco County Commissioners Mike Moore and Jack Mariano and to everyone who came out to celebrate this milestone. What a blessing to honor this hero!

David grew up in Queens, New York. With dreams of serving his community, Roca enrolled at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. However, after witnessing the devastation of September 11th, he knew joining the military was the right choice. In August 2004 he enlisted, and his unit deployed to Iraq soon after.

During his deployment, he sustained several traumatic brain injuries in combat, one of which occurred when an IED hit his vehicle. After returning home, David’s injuries prevented him from performing in physical training. After thorough evaluation, Roca medically retired in December 2008. Due to his service, Roca suffers from several TBIs, migraines, sprained ankles and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

David received a Valor Device for saving his Commander’s life in battle, along with accolades during his time in service, including an Army Commendation Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal and more. [From Operation Finally Home]
