Disabled Veteran Home Dedication Ceremony for USAF Captain Gabrel Gonzalez by Building Homes For Heroes in Land O’Lakes, FLA.

U.S. Air Force Captain Gabriel Gonzalez joined the military shortly after graduating from the University of Miami in 2009 because he had a deep desire to serve his country. While serving in Iraq, Captain Gonzalez suffered devastating head trauma that resulted in a traumatic brain injury (TBI), a fractured skull, and a stroke that left him with limited movement of his lower and upper extremities. Doctors told him may never be able to walk, speak or communicate normally again.

Captain Gonzalez, now confined to a wheelchair, spent many months rehabilitating from his serious injuries at the Tampa Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center. Miraculously, he is now able to walk and communicate in a limited manner on his own.

For his service to his country, Captain Gonzalez has been awarded the Air Medal (3x), Aerial Achievement Medal (3x), Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal (2x), Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (3x), Combat Readiness Medal, Air Force Recognition Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2x), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (2x), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon with Gold Border (3x), Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service (2x), Air Force Training Ribbon and the NATO Medal.

Captain Gonzalez and his family will receive a mortgage-free home in Land O Lakes, Florida in December of 2020.
