Rotarians Dist 6950 raise over $50,000 in monetary donations, thousands in much needed supplies and deliver it all to the Hurricane Ian survivors

District Governor Troy Willingham directed the 1,800 plus members of Rotary District 6950 (Pasco, Pinellas, Hernando & Citrus Counties) to join together in this community effort to raise over $50,000 in monetary donations and thousands of dollars in much needed supplies and deliver it all to the Hurricane Ian survivors in Southeast Florida. “There is a short window to make a big difference, together we will make a huge impact,” said Willingham.

So earlier this month, Rotary District 6950, known as the Suncoast, came together and sprung into action like a big extended family to help the people of South West Florida by collection then delivering supplies to the Rotary International District 6960 for distribution.

The plan started out with setting up collection centers at several locations like @David Maus of New Port Richey, North Tampa, Brooksville and Crystal River. Joe Barba of @Wesley Chapel Toyota and @Wesley Chapel Honda, the New Church Without Walls and the Safety Harbor Community Center

People generously gave with their heart and their money and with, boxes were filled and piled up in the lobbies and wherever space could be found. On Saturday the volunteers started the collection process and taking the much-needed supplies, load them into trucks and finally, on Sunday, deliver them down south for the hurricane victims and first responders.

I took special logistic skills to coordinate a multi-district and multi-organizational donation drive, with the hundreds of volunteers that came out to help and the ones behind the scenes and they all deserve special thanks from both our community and the people on the receiving end.
