The Republican Executive Committee with Candidate for Superintendent of Pasco Schools, Dr. John Legg

The Republican Executive Committee monthly meeting was held on Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the Myrtle Lake Baptist Church, located at 2017 Reigler Rd, Land O' Lakes, FL 34639.

About Dr. John Legg:

Dr. John Legg is a Pasco County educator with over 25 years of experience and the cofounder of Dayspring Academy, the #1 public school in the entire Tampa Bay region (k12niche, 2024). Dr. Legg has worked as a middle and high school teacher, a school administrator, a college professor, and a state legislator.

As a lifelong Pasco resident, Dr. Legg knows firsthand the need for high-quality educational opportunities in our community. After graduating from high school in Pasco, he became a first-generation scholar. He received his Associate of Arts degree from Pasco-Hernando State College, his Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Public Administration degrees from the University of South Florida, and his Doctorate in Program Development, focused on Educational Innovation, from the University of South Florida.

Dr. Legg is a firm believer in community service and has actively served as a board member of numerous community organizations, such as Lowery Park Zoo, Bayonet Point Medical Center, Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Pasco County Homeless Coalition, Step Up for Students, and other community and civic organizations.

Dr. Legg has served in the Florida Legislature, both House and Senate, as Chairman of the House Education Pre-K12 Committee, Speaker Pro-Tempore, and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education. During his time in the Legislature, he also served as Chairman of the Tampa Bay Area Delegation, Hillsborough County Delegation, and Pasco County Delegation.

As a national leader, Dr. Legg has served on the executive committee of the Southern Regional Education Board and the Education Commission of the States. He has authored numerous educational research reports, articles, and publications. In addition, Dr. Legg is a frequent guest speaker at national academic conferences on acceleration options for students, technology in the classroom, Career and Technical Education, educational choice, and school accountability.

Dedicated to educational excellence and innovation, Dr. Legg leads with a focus on improving student performance, providing opportunities for success, and increasing family engagement. He has championed initiatives that drive teaching performance in the classroom, streamline school accountability, and maximize flexibility for parents and students.

Dr. Legg lives in Pasco County and is married to Suzanne Legg. They have five children, three grandchildren, and a grandbaby on the way. Their three eldest children are graduates of Mitchell High School, and the younger two are still enrolled in school. Dr. Legg and his entire family are diehard Tampa Bay Lightning fans.
