2013 Arbor Day Event in Downtown New Port Richey

Attending were members of the the New Port Richey city staff and council, along with members of the city’s Environmental Committee, and representatives from the staff of Genesis Elementary School and students of the fourth grade classes of Genesis School’s East and West campuses.

Each year the city, through its Environmental Committee, plans an Arbor Day event in one of the City’s parks to recognize the importance of trees in our environment and in our world. New Port Richey was designated a Tree City USA in the early 1990s and has been recertified as a Tree City for more than 20 years.

Mayor Bob Consalvo read the proclamation celebrating Arbor Day and proclaiming January 18, 2013 to be the official date for Arbor Day in New Port Richey. Former Councilmember, Dell deChant, who was instrumental in helping the City to become a designated USA Tree City more than 20 years ago, gave the formal address that included Arbor Day history. Later, four Live Oak trees were planted by city staff with the help of the Genesis students. Two of the trees were contributions to Arbor Day through funds made available by the New Port Richey Garden Club.
