Kranendonk Memorial Scholar Athlete Awarded to Morgan Crescent

Jim Kranendonk, his wife Mary Jane and their sons John and Robert Kranendonk announced the winner of this year’s Thomas James Kranendonk Memorial Scholar Athlete Award, Miss Morgan Crescent ( also pictured, Max Ramos and Henry G. "Chip" Wichmanowski Executive Director of the Pasco Educational Foundation). Morgan played softball, volleyball and soccer at Land O’Lakes High school Emmett Harris earned a scholarship at Eckerd College. Her winning essay describes how team sports have helped her make friendships, to learn self-discipline that she also applied to her schoolwork. She knew Thomas from their time on the lake and knowing other friends that have passed much too soon have taught her not to take life for granted. “Life is a gift and you shouldn’t waste it on making poor choices” said Crescent. Mike Connor, owner of Beef o Brady's Wilderness Lareakes donated a portion of his sales from the event back to the Pasco Educational Foundation for Thomas' Scholarship.

The Nature Coast boys basketball team had been waiting for a rematch with Wiregrass Ranch since the Bulls won the Class 4A-District 8 championship two weeks ago on the Sharks home court.

Wesley Chapel High School Junior Nick Popolillo won the 152 lb Regional Championship, qualifying for the State Wresting Tournament. Nick beat two top 15 ranked wrestlers and won the tournament with an overtime victory. Only the top four wrestlers from the Regional Tournament advanced to the state competition. Her two best players, Shantel Sweet and Simone Brown, notified Tyszko they both had come down with the stomach flu. Wesley Chapel Junior Austin Fee sprints to a win in the 400 meter race with a time of 53 seconds taking the Wesley Chapel Track team to a second place finish in the Meet against Steinbrenner High Friday night. Austin just wrapped up a season of wrestling and will play football for the Wildcats again this year.

The Wiregrass Ranch boys basketball team won the first regional tournament game in program history by defeating Wesley Chapel 94-75 at home Feb. 17.

The Bulls (22-7) took a 52-26 lead into halftime of the Class 4A regional quarterfinals, but had to ward off a 30-point quarter by the Wildcats (13-16) in the third that closed the score to 72-56.

Chamberlain has accepted a scholarship to play football at Wofford College. Land O'Lakes High School receiver Will Erwin has accepted a scholarship to play football at Wofford College also. Morgan Crescent has accepted a soccer scholarship to play at Eckert College. Tera Marshall has accepted a soccer scholarship to play at Thomas University, Chris Dotson has accepted a Cross Country and Track scholarships to play at Lee. Land O'Lakes High School midfielder Justin Lyles signed a soccer scholarship to play at Thomas University in Georgia.
