The Lutz's Independence Day celebration took place on July 4th and has become a tradition where candidates have been running for Guv'na for about 20 years. Lutz shows its hometown pride with this holiday celebration themed "Saluting Lutz Volunteer Fire Department." In addition to the Guv'na festivities, the day included a bake contest, a 5K race, a one-mile fun run, a flag raising ceremony, cake decorating contest and barbecue benefitting the Lutz Volunteer Fire Association. Community support includes members of the Woman’s Club, the Little Women of Lutz, The Civil Air Patrol, Boy Scout Troop 12, Hillsborough County Parks/Rec, and so much more. Suzin Buzas Carr passed the Lutz Guv’na sash down to Dr Cindy Perkins, Chiropractor/Owner of Back In Health Wellness Center, who was able to raise over $9500 which will be distributed among local schools and organizations.

Last year the candidates as a group raised nearly $12,000, most of that coming from the winner and current Guv’na, Suzin Carr. The debate was an opportunity for the candidates to kick off their campaigns with smiles, handshakes and outrageous promises if “elected” to office. One vowed to rid the area of pesky mosquitoes. Another promised a five-day weekend. And they participated in contests to show their ability to handle the job, such as watermelon eating and knitting...
