Pasco Sheriff's Office Introduces Animal Assisted Therapy Dog Charlie to the Behavioral Health Intervention Team
The Pasco Sheriff's Office Behavioral Health Intervention Team (BHIT) recently added Animal Assisted Therapy Dog Charlie to the team. Charlie is partnered with BHIT Detective Pedro Leos and aims to provide a calming presence for those that may be experiencing a mental health crisis.
Charlie’s K-9 handler is Behavioral Health Intervention Team Detective Pedro Leos who will assist people struggling with opioid abuse, others across the mental health spectrum, Pasco County schools as well as local veteran groups in our community.
Sheriff Chris Nocco remarked recently “Everybody can understand that there’s a crisis in mental health that’s going on that hasn’t been addressed so what we’re trying to do is get a foothold in this situation and assist those in need.â€
