CHARTER SCHOOL ATHENIAN ACADEMY OF PASCO HAS FLAG DEDICATION
Athenian Academy of Pasco is one of Pasco School Districts five charter schools. They received a permanent charter about two years. The school for years had a commercial flagpole which was not working and lacked a large commercial flag.
The school made the necessary repairs and invited US Congressman Gus Bilrakis to dedicate the flag. This was appropriate in that Congressman Bilrakis is of Greek heritage. Athenian Academy is a traditional charter school, but offers Spanish and Greek to their elementary school students. The Congressman actually said a few words in Greek to the students which they understood.
The entire student body of 408 students turned out for the event. Songs were sung and the neighboring VFW post provided an honor guard. Pasco resident Dennis Bonfiglio obtained the large flag from a local commercial establishment on US 19 which was discarding the flag as it was torn. Dennis had the flag sewn and repaired and now it flies proudly at Athenian Academy.
School Board President James Mathieu said “No school should be without an American flagâ€. Athenian academy is on Seven Spring Blvd just south of Rt 54 in Veterans Village.
