Guva'na Hopefuls Kick Off Campaigns at Annual Debate

At the annual Guv’na debate May 10 at the Old Lutz School, the five hopefuls for the ceremonial title were doing whatever they could to raise cash: Selling cookies, brownies and even specialty popcorn. They had raffles and drawings. They even announced yard sales and other fundraisers scheduled for the next couple months. But unlike a traditional political campaign, the money raised doesn’t go toward buttons, bumper stickers or negative attack ads. It goes to local schools, civic organizations and other groups that benefit from the Lutz Guv’na event, which names the winner solely by how much money they raise for charity. Last year the candidates as a group raised nearly $12,000, most of that coming from the winner and current Guv’na, Suzin Carr. The debate was an opportunity for the candidates to kick off their campaigns with smiles, handshakes and outrageous promises if “elected” to office. One vowed to rid the area of pesky mosquitoes. Another promised a five-day weekend. And they participated in contests to show their ability to handle the job, such as watermelon eating and knitting...

Groundbreaking Celebrates Construction of New Pasco County Utilities Building

It was a historic groundbreaking for the Pasco County Utilities Administration and Operations Facility on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 19420 Central Boulevard, Land O’Lakes. The building will be the central administration location for the Pasco Utilities System and will be located on the southeast corner of U.S. 41 and Central Boulevard. A number of dignitaries participated in the groundbreaking including representatives from the Pasco County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), Constitutional Officers, architecture firm Fleischman Garcia, contractor Construction Technology Group, Inc., employees from Pasco County Utilities and other County Departments.

Bellamy Brothers Concert for Pasco High School at the Reunion of the Decades

Pasco High School alumni’s Howard Bellamy (Class of 64) and David Bellamy (Class of 68) returned to their old stomping grounds to help raise over $75,000 for the school athletic department. Country music legends, the Bellamy Brothers, having performed all over the world didn’t have to travel far from their Darby homes to make it to W.F. Edwards Stadium and a couple thousand of their closest friends.

Easter Egg Hunt by Victorious Life Church at Cobb Theatres, The Grove at Wesley Chapel

Over 3,700 children and their families celebrated Holy Saturday with the good folks from Victorious Life Church for their annual Wesley Chapel Community Egg Hunt. The event was sponsored by The Grove at Wesley Chapel at the field adjacent to Cobb Theatres at 6333 Wesley Grove Boulevard in Wesley Chapel. There were three separate egg hunts (65,000 Easter Eggs) at 10am, 11am and 12pm and all activities and hunts were held in the open field directly in front of Cobb Theaters. There was a Special Needs egg hunt for about 30 kids at 9 am, located in Coconut Court (Center Court of The Grove). The Egg Hunt was free and they also had free Air Rides for the kids! GFWC Lutz-Land O’Lakes Woman’s Club help their Annual Flea Market at the Old Lutz School. In preparation the Lutz-Land O’Lakes Woman’s Club enjoyed a riotous Haute Couture AND Low Couture Flea Market Fashion Show leading to their upcoming Annual Flea Market at the Old Lutz School. All fashions being showcased were pulled from donated items available in their Chic Boutique, ranging from elegant and sophisticated to zany. Two members won most outrageous honors for wearing a single pair of pants and a shirt. The ladies have spent 6 weeks accumulating and preparing a great deal of donated treasures including antiques, collectibles, clothing, books, tools, sports, furniture, kids’ items, baby equipment, décor and seasonal. All proceeds will benefit local charities and organizations as well as scholarships.

Somewhere between 100-150 people took part in the festivities and I was thrilled that so many of them decided to record messages in Milorian Studios, the impressive TV studio on the first floor of the building of which we’re now the second floor occupants.

The Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce came out to help celebrate the opening of a second office of Jones & Company CPAs P.A. with a Ribbon Cutting at their new location, 20635 Amberfield Drive Suite 101, in Land O'Lakes, Florida. Here is some public information made available:

Patricia Jones began the CPA practice in Pasco County in 1986. She graduated from College Misericordia with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and was licensed in the State of Florida as a Certified Public Accountant in 1984. She has over 35 years of accounting experience, which includes taxation, audit, estate planning and consulting.

Dogs Day at Agnes Lamb Park In Dade City By Richard K. Riley

Folks from all east central Pasco County came out to spend the day with their four legged friends at the 2014 Dogs Day in Dade City. There was a dog wagon parade, a Talent contest and an ice cream/yogurt eating contest at Agnes Lamb Park. Another great job by the Pasco High NJROTC!
